KUCHING: The Sarawak Women for Women Society needs donations for its Women in Need Need Empowerment (WINNE) Safe Space.
The society said the donation is to help maintain the shelter services, adding that 100 per cent of donated funds will be used to purchase essential items and services for the shelter residents such as food, diapers, baby milk powder, school supplies, counselling, and other daily necessities.
“Survivors leaving abusive situations are often forced to leave everything behind. Your donation will provide survivors with the necessities while they rebuild a new life,” it said in a social media post yesterday (Feb 23).
In December last year, the society announced an extension of its services through the opening of the Kuching Community Social Support Centre (CSSC).
The CSSC is a collaborative venture between the state government’s Social Development Council and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
“Thanks to the innovative CSSC project, women experiencing domestic violence, sexual harassment, sexual violence or other violations of rights can now meet with our social worker and counsellor in the centre of town.
“We have been allocated space at the CSSC to offer para-counselling and para-legal consultations in our WINNE’s Place pod three times a week, namely Mondays and Fridays from 10 am to 3 pm and Wednesdays from 10 am to 1 pm,” it said.
The society said women are welcome to drop by or make an appointment to discuss the situation distressing them and consider their options.
