SIBU: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu Branch will celebrate World First Aid Day with the theme First Aid and Sports.
To be held this Saturday at their headquarters, the theme emphasises the importance of immediate medical attention in the context of sports-related injuries.
“This year’s theme highlights the critical role that first aid can play in sporting environments, ensuring the safety and well-being of athletes, spectators and communities worldwide.
“It also highlights the need for comprehensive injury prevention strategies, effective protocols and the adoption of first aid policies to ensure safety.
“While sports inherently carry the risk of injuries, understanding the foundational principles of first aid is vital in responding to these situations,” the society said in a press release yesterday.
It also said that sports are a source of joy and entertainment and an arena where individuals challenge their physical limits, foster camaraderie and promote community engagement.
“Amidst the excitement of athletic pursuits, there is the potential for injuries and medical emergencies,” it said.
MRCS Sibu Branch will host activities such as First Aid booth and free health screening starting from 10 am to 1 pm.
“The public can learn some of the basic first aid techniques such as bandaging, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), managing choking incidents, treating fractures (broken bones), bleeding and sprains at the respective booths,” it said.
Meanwhile, in collaboration with Alpro Pharmacy and Biolife Lab (Sibu) Sdn Bhd, there will be free health screenings at the MRCS Sibu Branch Headquarters.
