KUCHING: Media practitioners play a crucial role in shaping public perception and regarded as agents for the nation in educating the public.

Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) Sarawak director Tan Phang Chia stated that media correspondents are doing more than just presenting information or news, in congnizant they also raise awareness about important issues affecting society.

“The media’s role is to shape minds, foster culture, instill values, and contribute to community development. Thus, the media is crucial in delivering significant news and information that benefits the public,” he said.

He made these comments at the SOCSO Media Engagement and Networking Session 2024 held at Raia Hotel here yesterday.

Tan went on to say that media practitioners are unsung heroes for their contributions to national development.

“For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, media practitioners were at the forefront, providing critical updates on the virus and current events.

“Without media practitioners, the public would have been less informed about ongoing cases and important news. This highlights the essential role of media professionals in our country,” he added.
