KUCHING: Four houses at Kampung Boyan here are at risk of developing cracks and holes in their housing compounds due to soil erosion.
This concern arose following an assessment of an uninhabited house in the same village, which exhibited similar issues.
According to Kuching Civil Defence Force (APM) officer Maj Wan Khairul Zakwan Wan Tajudden, they were notified regarding a soil erosion at a house in the village around 9am.
In response, a three-man team, along with various agencies such as the police, Kuching District Office, Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), Public Works Department (JKR), Minerals and Geosciences Department, and Pantai Damai constituency service centre, were dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, they conducted a risk assessment at the scene and confirmed that the house’s compound has cracks and holes. They deemed that the house is unsafe to occupy, even though it is uninhabited.
“However, there are four houses, inhabited by five families, in the nearby area at risk of experiencing the same problem,” Maj Wan Khairul Zakwan said.
After an urgent discussion to address the issue, it was decided that the repair works would be divided among three parties.
DBKU will be demolishing the empty house, JKR will be building a retaining wall at the affected areas, and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage will be repairing the drainage system.
