KUCHNG: Fresh fish are being turned into dried fish using the help of a solar dryer dome.
The Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) Sarawak with the Buntal Fishermen Association (PNKB) is taking this route in solving the problem of unsold fishes in the area due to the movement control order (MCO).
“LKIM Sarawak and PNKB are buying fishes in bulk from the fishermen and are reselling the fish through an online platform and will deliver it to the houses of the customers.
“The unsold fishes are being dried using a solar dryer dome which is the first of its kind built by LKIM through the Sarawak Fisherman Association in the state,” said LKIM Sarawak deputy director Intan Suhaila Othman.
She was speaking to reporters during a working visit by Assistant Minister of Agriculture Native Land and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail here yesterday.
Intan added that the solar dryer dome is one of the alternatives to fish drying which saves two or three days compared to the conventional method which may take seven days.
“The fish that are being dried in the dome are also cleaner and of better quality. This place also has a fish processing centre which obtained its halal certificate,” she said.
Intan said, at one time, some 200 to 300 kilograms of fish are being dried under controlled temperature which is 55 degree Celsius during the day and 30 to 37 degree Celsius during night time.
Also, yesterday, Abdul Rahman spent some time to visit the site which is also selling fresh fish, food and the solar dryer dome.
