KUCHING: About 300 units of solar powered street lights will be installed along the road from Bau to Batu Kitang soon.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the installation will cost about RM2 million.
“The use of solar street lights was suggested by Deputy Minister for Transport II Datuk Henry Harry Jinep,” he said after a work visit to Tasik Biru in Bau yesterday (March 1).
Earlier in his speech, Henry, who is also Tasik Biru assemblyman, thanked the Sarawak government for approving the cost for the installation of the street lights.
“Thank you, Lee and the state Public Works Department (JKR) staff for being here to witness how the solar street lights will be implemented with the budget approved by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,” he said.
He added that aside from this, there are also plans to build a dual carriageway from Batu Kitang to Bau.
“Under the first phase is the construction of a dual carriageway from Sibuluh to Bau,” he said.
With all these projects completed, Henry said that in the three to four years’ time, Bau will not be isolated from the major network of Sarawak.
