Soldier killed in shooting incident confirmed as 9th Brigade personnel

SONG: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) has confirmed that one of its personnel, who was killed after being shot on Monday (Sept 23), was part of a company from the 9th Brigade in Sibu.

The personnel have been identified as Cpl Petrus Linggi Liman, 29.

In a statement issued, the victim was undergoing an Exercise PASAK BUMI (EPB) around Kanowit-Nanga Dap-Song from Sept 21 to 29.

“On the second day of training, at around 2.45 am, the platoon he was in was resting when they heard the sound of a motorcycle travelling along a log road near their location.

“Shortly after, the sound of what they believed was a gunshot rang out in the direction of the motorcycle. Suspicious of the sound, a perimeter check was carried out immediately and they found a personnel injured by the gunshot,” the army said.

Preliminary treatment was promptly administered on-site before he was rushed to the Song health clinic at 4 am. He was later referred to Kapit Hospital for further medical treatment at 5 am, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at 7.43 am.

Following the incident, a police report has been lodged at the Song district police headquarters (IPD) and investigations are underway.
