KUCHING: For a mother of six who is the family’s sole bread- winner, the social media has turned out to be a blessing of sorts.
Yesterday, housewife turned businesswoman Ajibah Yusup found herself meeting Welfare, Community Well-Being, Women, Family and Children Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah who presented her with a mock cheque for RM5,000.
Talking to reporters after the cheque presentation ceremony, Fatimah said she decided to help Ajibah after seeing a viralled story of her standing outside her house, selling cakes and donuts in Sarawak Voice.
The post said that Ajibah had taken to doing business after her husband was hurt in an accident and could not work and support their family as he used to.
“Ajibah is selling ‘kuih’ such as cakes and donuts for a living whereby her monthly income is around RM700.
“And due to that, the Sarawak Welfare Department has decided to help with her business,” Fatimah said.
According to the minister, the grant will go towards buying appliances such as a refrigerator, food mixer, heavy duty blender and oven.
She said the appliances will be delivered to Ajibah’s home in Kpg Tanjung Bundong, Kota Samarahan after Hari Raya.
It was understood that Ajibah has also been receiving ‘Bantuan Kanak-Kanak’ (BKK) worth RM450 since October 2018.
