THE Utility and Telecommunications Ministry is planning to set up a water entity for Sarawak.
Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi (GPS-Sebuyau) said the entity seeks to combine four existing water supply agencies in the state.
“These include the Kuching Water Board, Sibu Water Board, LAKU Management Sdn Bhd and the Rural Water Supply Department.
“This one water entity will strengthen water supply services in the future,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech during the DUN sitting on Tuesday (May 24).
At the same time, he said his ministry will strengthen and breathe new life into the State Water Authority as a corporate body (an organisation).
“Currently, the State Water Authority refers to the Permanent Secretary of the Utilities and Telecommunications Ministry with only one appointed officer.
“This is important to improve the delivery of water supply services as well as more efficient, effective and holistic management of water resources,” he added.
