KUCHING: Politicians have been urged to solve problems faced by the public through proper channels and official communications.
In making the call, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap added that the complaints must be conveyed directly to relevant authorities rather than through the media for self and cheap publicity.
“I want to reassure the public that I will continue to serve as the eyes and ears of our community and be part of the solution (people over politics) rather than highlighting issues through the media for publicity,” he said.
Yap added that the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kota Sentosa branch would continue to serve as the eyes and ears of the communities living in Kota Sentosa.
“This is to ensure that problems are always communicated to the relevant authorities for their immediate action for rectification,” he said.
He said this during a visit to the BDC areas where residents had complained about a burst main water pipe at Jalan Canna/Jalan Stutong. As a result, there was low water pressure or no water supply to areas at Jalan Stutong, Jalan BDC and surrounding areas.
“Following the request for assistance received, the complaint was immediately communicated to Kuching Water Board (KWB) which urgently rectified the burst main water pipe problem.
“A water tanker was also mobilised by KWB to the areas affected to ease the inconveniences faced by the residents,” he added.
Yap said that the Kota Sentosa service centre was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone facing problems in his constituency or those who had problems of public interest but did not know how to deal with them.
