The Borneo International Kite Festival (BIKF) layout plan with the main route to be closed during the festival.

BINTULU: A few roads here will be affected in conjunction with the Borneo International Kite Festival (BIKF) 2018 from September 26 to 30. Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) and police will close some of the roads and divert traffic along the routes. Briefing a conference on Monday, BDA General Manager Rodziah Morshidi said the affected roads include Jalan Sultan Iskandar (old traffic light at SK St Anthony) towards Paragon Road (new traffic light) at Bintulu Old Airport.

“This route will be closed from 8am to 6pm from September 26 to 30,” she said. Rodziah added Lebuh Raya Abang Galau, Jalan Keppel, Jalan Law Gek Soon will be closed from 7.30am to 8.30am on September 29 for BIKF 2018 parade. She said the actual time of the traffic control could differ according to the needs in the areas and at the discretion of the traffic police and BDA enforcement team on duty. She added BDA enforcement team and traffic police personnel would be stationed at the affected locations to control the traffic flow.

“The public are not allowed to park their vehicle at the side of the roads or on road shoulders along the boulevard area and traffic summonses will be issued by the police. “Those going towards these affected areas are advised to use the road detour,” said Rodziah.

Hundreds of kiters from 27 countries will be participating in this year’s kite festival. The family-fun event comes with various cultural and artiste performances in the evening; namely fashion show, Ratu Kebaya, dancing and singing contest. On another matter, Rodziah said all activities taken place at the Bintulu Waterfront Promenade will be suspended temporarily.

She said the 3.25km waterfront will be closed immediately and is expected to reopen to the public in March next year. “The closure is to give way to the ongoing construction, maintenance and conservation works on the banks of the river,” she explained. As such, she advised the public to observe the safety sign and always be sensitive to the river’s surrounding environment.
