KUCHING: An elderly couple has decided to abandon their oldest son due to his excessive borrowing from ah long.

The 71-year-old Mu and her 84-year-old husband are under constant pressure from the ah long because of the amount owed by their 47-year-old son.

“This year, my kid borrowed four times from Ah Long.

“We already settled more than RM100,000 for the first three of his ah long debts, but he still borrowed for the fourth time (this year) and he has since gone missing,” she told a press conference at Wisma MCA in Kuala Lumpur today, quoted by The Star.

The press conference was led by MCA head of Public Services and Complaints Department, Datuk Seri Michael Chong.

The ah long, according to Mu, have been targeting her residence in Puchong since they were unable to find her kid.

She said the ah long went to the extent of bolting the front gate of the house to prevent the residents from leaving. She added that the ah long distributed fliers across the neighbourhood detailing her son’s overdue debt.

Since then, Mu said her daughter had reported a crime to the Bandar Kinrara police station.

Chong, meanwhile, reported receiving 220 ah long cases this year, with loans totalling RM26 million according to a report by The Star.

“August set a record for the most instances ever with 41. As long as the incidents continue to occur, it is highly concerning,” he added.

He also called on the police to act against ah long’s blatant actions of intimidation.

“We hope that these offenders will be prosecuted. They are going after innocent people to pay off other people’s debts,” he said.
