KUCHING: A political secretary to the Chief Minister has challenge Sarawak Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Chong Chieng Jen to tell Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Petronas to stop all operations in the state if they fail to give Sarawak its 20 per cent oil royalty.

“If Chong is truly for Sarawak, I challenge him to tell the Prime Minister,” Soo Li Ching said in a statement yesterday.

She was responding to Chong’s remarks that PH did not promise an increase of oil royalty from the present five per cent to 20 per cent unconditionally.

“Stop giving excuses to cover their failure to fulfill their promise.

“I believe all Sarawakians will have the same feeling of being cheated by the sweet talk of being given back the 20 per cent of the oil royalty and 50 per cent of all tax revenues collected in the state,” she said.

Soo said as what Chong had claimed that the Sarawak government had rejected the proposals or package offered by PH before the 14th General Election (GE14), she reminded Chong that “when Malaya took our oil resources for the development of Malaya, did Sarawak set any condition?”

“Why should Sarawak, when claiming back 20 per cent of the oil royalty, must come with condition? It does not make sense for somebody when claiming their own property or money, has to fulfil certain condition to get back what actually belongs to them,” she argued.

She said it seemed that Chong had no proper locus standi or any say on the 20 per cent oil royalty and 50 per cent tax revenue as Sarawak PH had to abide to whatever was decided by PH or the Prime Minister.

“Our main objective is to fight for ‘Sarawak First’. With all the unfulfilled promises by PH, I believe Sarawakians will know who to choose to protect the interests of Sarawak.

“The ‘shared prosperity’ as claimed by PH is just slogan and all talk,” she pointed out.
