KUCHING: Premises operators or individuals who fail to comply with the conditional movement control order (CMCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs) beware!
Kuching district acting police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said, today Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD Kuching) would intensify monitoring and inspection of entertainment centres, eateries as well as crowded locations located in Kuching district.
“This initiative is taken to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic which is on the rise every day.
“Comprehensive and continuous enforcement needs to be implemented to remind and provide awareness to the community,” he said in a statement today (Apr 21).
Merbin revealed that the Kuching Central Police Station Task Force successfully conducted two separate raids on Tuesday (Apr 20) and issued a total of 19 compounds to individuals found committing relevant offences.
In the first raid held approximately at 10.20pm at the Kuching Waterfront, Merbin said the task force team compounded nine local individuals, namely seven men and two women aged between 19 and 40 years old for SOP non-compliance.
“All compounded persons were taken to the Central Police Station for further action,” he said.
In the second raid at approximately 10.40pm, he said the task force team found an entertainment premises operating beyond the allowed time at Jalan Ang Cheng Ho here.
“The owner of the premises, three employees and six customers aged between 19 and 52 years old were compounded. All of them were taken to IPD Kuching for further action,” added Merbin.
He hoped that the public would learn from the rise in the spread of Covid-19 infection, adding that law enforcement was inadequate without public awareness of the dangers of the pandemic.
“We need to work together to break the Covid-19 chain. I believe this can be done with continued cooperation and responsibility from all parties,” added Merbin.
