SOPs for houses of worship in MCO areas

KUCHING: During the enforcement of the movement control order (MCO) in Sarawak, houses of worship in the areas are only allowed to open for a live-streaming crew or committee members with a maximum attendance of 12 persons.

As per the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) updated on Friday (May 28), administrative offices at houses of worship are allowed to  open but with only 30 percent of staff members in attendance.

Weddings in houses or worship are allowed in the MCO areas with a maximum of 12 persons only subjected to the size of the houses of worship and with at least one metre of physical distancing.

Attendees of these weddings are to leave the houses of worship immediately after the ceremonies end.

However, the aforementioned activities are only permitted in the MCO areas and not in areas under the enforcement of the enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

In the MCO and EMCO areas, activities such as meetings, seminars, courses, cultural activities and others are not allowed.

Compliance to the Covid-19 prevention and control protocol is mandatory, including compulsory use of face masks, frequent hand cleansing, attendance registration, temperature checking, physical distancing of at least one metre and so on.

There should also be scheduled sanitisation of frequently touched areas in the premises.

Individuals who are unwell or have symptoms of fever, cough, sore throat, flu or breathing difficulties are not allowed to enter the premises.

Senior citizens and individuals suffering from chronic diseases are not encouraged to enter the premises or be present as part of the live-streaming crew or committee members and children aged 12 years and below are not permitted to enter the premises.

Members are to leave immediately once the live-streaming session or religious activity ends.

As for the responsibilities of the management committees of the houses of worship, only one entry point and one exit point are to be designated.

On top of the standard Covid-19 prevention measures, they should appoint at least one person to monitor the implementation and adherence to the SOPs in force.

They should also ensure that members leave the houses of worship immediately after the live-streaming session or religious activity ends.
