OYA: The Melanau Heritage Gallery here will become a source of knowledge on the community as it connects with the early history of the local community.

Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi commended Dalat assemblywoman Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah for her efforts and perseverence in the development of the gallery.

“We would also like to have a similar galery in Mukah and Balingian which reflects and will benefit the local community.

“We hope that this gallery will be used by the locals to know about their rich cultures and heritage,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine, also said that the gallery was an excellent platform to showcase the Melanau culture to the younger generation.

“This is because many of the younger generation have not understood or do not know the Melanau culture.

“Therefore by having this gallery, more information and artefacts can be placed here to show them that this is a heritage that needs to be passed down to the younger generation.

“It is also a good initiative to showcase to the public and other races as we live in a multiracial society”, he said.
