MIRI: Teams from Southern Zone (Kuching, Samarahan and Serian) and Central Zone (Kapit, Sibu and Mukah) dominated the swimming events in 2nd Suksar (Sarawak Games) 2019.
In the final events yesterday, swimmers from both zones won golds in 50m freestyle boy’s and girl’s categories and the 100 metre butterfly. The Southern zone clinched their gold in the 50m freestyle category through 15 year-old Darly Boon who clocked 26.15s while in the 100m butterfly girl’s category, Magdalene Lau took the gold in 1:09.18s to edge Central Zone swimmers Nee Qiao Yuan (1:09.44s) and Adeline Lau (1:11.62s) who finished second and third respectively.
Meanwhile, the Northern Zone (Limbang, Miri and Bintulu) secured second placing in the boy’s and girl’s 50m freestyle event.
Northern Zone swimmers Hector Ho, 12, clocked 26.44s while Angelica Rachel Carroll, 14, clocked 29.22s to take the silver in their respective categories in the final yesterday. Mukah Resident officer Abdul Malik Talip gave away the prizes.
