KUCHING: The NASA Space Apps Sarawak Challenge is an initiative to demonstrate the commitment to developing young Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) talents in Sarawak.
Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah said it is aimed at nurturing STEM icons, who can provide peer inspiration to students to discover the many wonders of science and technology.
“And hopefully, one day, our icons will do Sarawak proud through their own breakthrough research and innovations,” he said.
He said this during the closing and award ceremony of the NASA Space Apps Sarawak Challenge 2023 at i-CATS University College here on Friday.
He also said participating in such programmes or any hackathon gives students a competitive edge.
“I assure you, the persistence, determination, teamwork, problem solving skills, bravery to explore uncharted territories and moving out of your comfort zone are qualities that will come useful in your future careers, and even personal lives.
“My Ministry is also promoting the culture of being innovative and creative in providing solutions to problems around us.
“Part of being innovative is also the ability to explore, to solve problems, even if they are outside of areas that you are familiar with. The Space Apps challenge provides the opportunity for you to be innovative,” he added.
