KUCHING: An event space to host arts and culture programmes and events will be available next year under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
Its minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah announced this yesterday when officiating at the 2019 Belt and Road Sarawak Beijing Joint Art Exhibition here at Saradise Gallery, Titanium Tower Brighton Square.
“I spoke with our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on how we can develop more events and exhibitions for the government and the ministry to support.
“Hence, a block allocation has been granted by the government to my ministry next year, which can be used to host events, art and culture programmes,” he revealed.
Karim urged upcoming artists, singers or skilled artisans to apply for the Sarawak Youth Venture Fund which was set up last year and was worth RM5 million.
“The ministry and the state government are willing to assist these talented Sarawakians to improve their skills.
“If they were to approach the Entrepreneur Unit for assistance, it will be very difficult to categorise them as entrepreneurs because artists are a different breed of people.
“They are very passionate in their artworks and they might have to go overseas to develop their skills,” said the minister.
