KUCHING: Mosque and surau management in Sarawak must ensure every speaker invited for religious activities obtains a licence from the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (Jais).

Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications (Utilities) Datuk Abdul Rahman Junaidi said this is to ensure the speakers have a thorough background on the religion.

He said this is also implemented because of concerns that the content of speeches could become a cause of social division.

He said this at the MIS donation presentation ceremony for Mosques, Surau and Islamic Burial Land in 2023, at the Islamic Complex Hall, here, yesterday.

He added that this is also one of the important decisions made by the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs of Malaysia (MKI) at a recent meeting.

“Every speaker needs to obtain a licence from Jais,” he said, adding, “only those who are licensed by Jais Director Khalidi Ibrahim can deliver speeches.”
