KUCHING: A special food assistance programme was introduced by the Darul Hana Mosque Management Committee in conjunction with the month of Ramadan.

Known as Bakul Darul Hana, the programme focuses on providing basic food needs to help ease the burden of the asnaf (those eligible to receive donations) from the surrounding villages.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said, the programme is a noble effort by the mosque management committee to help and get closer to the community.

“The community consisting of the asnaf group can contact the mosque management committee to get this assistance.

“With this kind of assistance, the mosque management committee can together help the needy community, especially the asnaf,” he said after launching the Darul Hana Basket Programme at the Darul Hana Mosque on Wednesday.

During the short ceremony, five asnaf groups consisting of people with disabilities (OKU), senior citizens and single mothers received the assistance.

Dr Abdul Rahman who is also the Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply) said that the initiative should be an example to other mosques or surau in the state.

“If more mosques or surau introduce welfare programmes like this, there will definitely be more of those categorised as asnaf who can be helped,” he said.

After the ceremony, a recitation of surah Yaasin was also held among 11 members of the management committee in conjunction with the fifth anniversary of Masjid Darul Hana.

Also present was Darul Hana Mosque management committee chairman Khairul Anwar Shazali.
