THE Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government will provide a special financial incentive to Sarawak civil service officers and federal civil service officers in Sarawak in appreciation of their contribution and sacrifice in performing their duties professionally in these challenging circumstances.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said Sarawak civil service officers would receive an incentive equivalent to a month and a half of their basic salary or a minimum of RM2,000 by the end of this year.

“Also not left behind are the federal civil service officers who have contributed their services to Sarawak. They will be paid a one-off incentive of RM500 in the first quarter of next year,” he announced in his winding-up speech today.

He noted that during the Covid-19 pandemic, members of the Sarawak civil service and federal civil service including doctors, nurses, health workers, uniformed bodies, Immigration, and other frontline personnel had worked tirelessly to protect the people of Sarawak.

“In so doing, they have risked their own safety and sacrificed their comfort. There are also countless other members of the civil service who are working behind the scenes, away from the glare of publicity, but working diligently in their respective work places. To all of them, I say ‘thank you’.”

He commended the support and contribution of the Sarawak civil service in implementing the state government’s policies as well as delivering development programmes, projects, and public service to the people – rising to the occasion even in these challenging times.

Abang Johari said the Sarawak civil service had been instrumental in ensuring that most projects were well-implemented and executed in a timely manner, especially people-centric projects such as Projek Rakyat and Rural Transformation Projects (RTPs).

On another note, he said the 2021 State Budget he had presented was a road map to a future that embodied Sarawakians’ values and aspirations – opportunities for all, a rising standard of living, and a sustainable, peaceful Sarawak.

He urged all Sarawakians to work together to meet challenges that lay ahead and rise to build an even stronger economy, emphasising that though it would not be easy, he was optimistic about Sarawak’s future as long as the people remained united and hardworking.

“The government is cognizant that the implementation of the economic plan cannot be successfully delivered by the government alone. Therefore, I call on the private sector to play their part in ensuring our 10-year plan towards Sarawak as a developed state by 2030 is successful.

“At the same time, I would like to call on the rakyat to remain steadfast, brave, and diligent in prevailing over the current economic challenges and emerge even stronger after this episode.”

Abang Johari hoped that with the cooperation, persistent effort, and solid support of all, Sarawak under GPS would become a prosperous and developed state by 2030.
