KUCHING: A special policy will be adopted for longhouses in Sarawak, says Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Ali Biju.
“There is no official policy ever made by the federal government for longhouses…not even one programme specially for longhouses.
“Over 50 per cent of the state’s population belongs to a longhouse thus, Pakatan Harapan (PH) as the federal government, has started to recognise our importance and decided to adopt a special policy to help longhouses in the state,” he stated.
Ali Biju, who was appointed as the head of the special committee tasked to conduct a study and propose what sort of policies would be suitable, did not comment further on the progress but he did say that longhouse residents would definitely benefit from the outcome.
He spoke when attending the opening of the Sarawak PKR annual general meeting on Sunday night here.
Ali added that the federal government’s presence at village level must be felt by the community, especially those in rural areas, hence he extended his request to the Cabinet to implement Majlis Perpaduan dan Kemajuan Kampung in the state.
He added that it was crucial for PH to get closer to the community in order to win the next state election.
