KUCHING: Only sports and recreational activities without spectators and public participation are allowed to be held during the period of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) in the state.
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said sports and recreational activities either individually or in teams for the purpose of training, games and matches can be held during the CMCO period without the presence of spectators or supporters.
“All sports and recreational activities for individual and team categories for the purpose of training, games and matches whether indoor or outdoor are allowed with strict adherence to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) such as physical distancing and the use of face masks.
“It means football matches such as the Malaysia Cup, which will start this month, will be held at Stadium Negeri but without the presence of spectators and supporters,” he said during SDMC’s Covid-19 press conference here on Monday (Mar 1).
Abdul Karim also stressed that the organisation of tournaments and sports competitions in the state during the CMCO period is subject to the approval of the Youth and Sports Ministry and must be informed to SDMC.
“Permission to operate and use sports facilities by the public is limited and needs supporting letters from the ministry or SDMC,” he said.
Apart from that, he said activities involving the participation of the public at any time such as fun runs, triathlons, marathons and so on are prohibited.
“These are some of the SOPs for sports and recreational activities in Sarawak during the CMCO period. Detailed information on this matter can be obtained from SDMC or the Youth and Sports Ministry’s website,” he said.
The imposition of the CMCO throughout Sarawak was extended for a period of two weeks since yesterday until March 15 following the increase in Covid-19 cases in the state.
