SIBU: The Sarawak government has been urged to expedite the implementation of the Bukit Assek Redevelopment Project.

“This project is the primary hope of Sibu residents and is expected to bring significant benefits to the economic and social development of the area,” said Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng.

Speaking to reporters after the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bukit Assek Branch Triennial General Meeting (TGM) meeting here Sunday (Nov 17) he said this was among nine motions and proposals adopted at the meeting.

He said another motion was to request the government to expedite Phase Four of the Sibu Flood Mitigation Plan to reduce the risk of flooding, which has caused property damage.

“It is currently at the design and tender stage, but we hope it can begin soon. It connects the section from Jalan Ek Dee to Paramount Hotel, completing the missing link. This is the fourth project, and it is fully funded by the Sarawak government,” he said.

“The final motion was on the upgrading of Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman, which serves as an official or protocol road,” he added.
