Spike in cases again with 308 new cases recorded today

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 308 new Covid-19 positive cases today bringing the total number thus far to 14,963.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said of the number, 66 were recorded in Serian, Bintulu (60), Sibu (58), Meradong (46), Miri (40), Kuching (11), Samarahan (eight), Beluru (five), Betong (four), Kapit (three), Bukit Mabong, Julau and Sri Aman each recorded two cases while one case was reported in Sebauh.

“One hundred 36 of the new cases were persons screened due to close contact with Covid-19 positive cases in which 16 of them were symptomatic.

“Another 124 cases were persons screened involving active clusters with five symptomatic individuals and 29 cases were from other screenings at health facilities with four symptomatic individuals.

“The other 18 cases were symptomatic individuals screened at health facilities including one Import B case of an individual returning from other states in Malaysia,” SDMC stated.

Meanwhile, 187 patients had recovered and were discharged from hospitals today.

“A total of 34 patients were discharged from Sarikei Hospital, Sibu Hospital (33), low-risk quarantine centre (PKRC) under Kapit Hospital (32), Miri Hospital (30), Sarawak General Hospital (27), Bintulu Hospital (18), PKRC Serian (11) and one case respectively in Sri Aman Hospital and Limbang Hospital.

“This brings the total number of positive Covid-19 cases that have recovered and discharged to 12,102 persons or 80.88 percent of the total number of Covid-19 cases in the state,” SDMC added.

The committee reported 311 new patient-under-investigation (PUI) cases with none awaiting lab results.
