MIRI: The patriotic spirit is very much alive in the residential area of Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (KRT), Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR), Sungai Rait as the houses there are being gaily decorated with Jalur Gemilang and Sarawak flags in conjunction with the Merdeka celebration.
At the residential area located at about 25 km from Miri City centre, at least 10 housing lots within the KRT PPR are flying the flags.
According to a spokesperson of the residential area, Nur Qaytrina Sim, KRT PPR Sungai Rait is organising a “Fly the Jalur Gemilang and Sarawak flag competition” in conjunction with the Merdeka month (August) and Malaysia Day (September) celebration.
“Besides, we want to promote the practice and culture of hoisting our flags (Jalur Gemilang and the Sarawak flag). We were surprised to see the overwhelming response that we received,” she said.
The competition results, she added, would be announced on September 15.
All entries will be judged by the National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) Miri Division.
