SIBU: A five-year-old girl suffered injuries to her eyes when she encountered a spitting cobra that had entered her family house at Jalan Yong Kip Min, off Jalan Aping here.
Information received from the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre in Kuching disclosed that the incident occurred around 1.30pm yesterday.
After receiving a distress call, Bomba immediately dispatched a team of seven firefighters led by operations commander Yusuf Tar who went to the house in a fire engine and an emergency medical response service (EMRS) vehicle.
The cobra was still in the house when the rescue team arrived. After it was captured, the reptile was later released in its natural habitat.
Meanwhile, the five-year-old girl was sent to the Sibu Hospital by an ambulance.
In a separate incident, firefighters were called to help rescue a 2 ½-year-old boy who was locked inside a room.
The 4.22pm incident occurred at the boy’s family house at Jalan Pujut 2A, Kampung Sungai Adong in Miri. On arrival at the scene, the rescue team found the boy was still locked inside the room.
According to family members, the boy had accidentally locked himself inside the room while playing.
His grandfather, who was with him then, quickly called Bomba for help. The firefighters had to damage the door lock of the room to free the boy. The five-year-old girl undergoing treatment at Sibu Hospital.
