SIBU: Sports activities provide Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) with a refreshing break from political matters, according to Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie.
The PRS Women chief noted that sports not only serve as a platform to strengthen camaraderie within the party but also offer recreational opportunities for its members.
“They have found a platform through sports, where all PRS women’s wings from across Sarawak can come together. Sports help make us stronger, both physically and mentally, and keep us motivated.
“If we focus solely on politics, it can become stressful. However, with sports programmes like this, we feel more relaxed, understanding, and the spirit of sportsmanship is always present,” she said.
She made these comments to reporters after attending the opening ceremony of the 2024 PRS Women’s Wing Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie Futsal Cup, officiated by Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana at Kampung Nangka Futsal Court, Thursday (Sept 12).
Doris, who is also the Sri Aman MP, stated that the tournament has been held annually since 2017, beginning in Sri Aman.
“After that, the tournament took place in Kapit, but was paused due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2022, if I’m not mistaken, it was held in Bintulu. Last year, Tamin constituency hosted the tournament here.
“This year, we are grateful that Ngemah constituency, with the support of Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana, is hosting the tournament here at the Kampung Nangka Futsal Court. As for next year’s host, we will announce it tomorrow,” she added.
She expressed hope that the two-day tournament (Sept 12-13), featuring 15 teams, would strengthen the bonds among all PRS women’s wings, particularly PRS’ Exco and members.
