BINTULU: Basketball not only promotes physical and mental fitness but also serves as an excellent platform for fostering harmony among multi-ethnic communities.

Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac) Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said it was important for youth to get involved in sports activities and strengthen bonds between players and the local community.

He hoped that competitions like the 16th Dato Lim Soo Kim Soo Cup Basketball Championship would serve as the best platform to foster unity and improve basketball skills.

“Sports should be embraced as a lifelong health culture rather than just a means to win tournaments or competitions,” said Tiong in his speech read by his special officer, Steven Kong, at the event held at the Bintulu Basketball Division Association court recently.

Meanwhile, Heng Ann Malaysia Association Youth Division secretary-general Low Chin Yen said that 13 teams from Johor, Kedah, Perlis, Selangor, Melaka, Kuala Lumpur, Bintulu, Sibu, and Kuching participated in the tournament, which ran from May 17 to 20.

He added that the tournament was collaboration between the Bintulu and Sibu Division Hin Hua Associations.
