KUCHING: A badminton tournament between Bandar Kuching teams bring people together regardless of their background, race and religion, said Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii.

He was officiating at the tournament held at Stapok Badminton Court on Saturday.

“Despite political differences and uncertainties, sports unite the people and the best example was shown when national badminton player Datuk Lee Chong Wei played against China’s Lin Dan,” he said.

Dr Yii added all Malaysians were united in supporting Leeand Malaysia in particular.

“Badminton is a sport I am very passionate about and I want more badminton tournaments to be held in Kuching and Sarawak to train talented people.

“It will not only benefit the young people in terms of training, but also adults as we can enjoy it as a recreational activity,” he said.

Dr Yii disclosed that the next badminton tournament would be organised for students.

The tournament attracted about 200 participants from 14 teams.
