SIMANGGANG: Party members need to be wise in dealing with the impact of social media on youths who could easily be influenced by unverified sources of information.
Simanggang assemblyman Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said the focus of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) is to continue to recruit more members, especially those aged 18 to 21.
“The trend of teenagers looking at the current political scenario is very different due to the influence of social media as a source of unfiltered information.
“Therefore, party members have to be good in dealing with this issue so that it does not get worse,” Harden, who is also Simanggang SUPP chairman, said during a meeting here yesterday.
He explained that among other things, the meeting discussed plans for the year.
“In addition, the focus is on attracting the participation of more members of the public because their involvement is a manifestation of support for the party and the government.
“What is certain is that we always involve them in developing the area.”
