KUCHING: A total of 150 Gawai gift sets will be distributed to selected villages and churches within the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) area in conjunction with the upcoming Gawai Dayak.
MBKS stated that the gift sets will benefit recipients comprising needy families and the B40 group.
“The gift sets include financial aid, face masks and Pansuh paste which were handed over to the community leader in the selected villages and churches. The recipients are mainly from the St Faith Church, Tabuan Jaya Anglican Church, Kampung Stampin Baru, Kampung Stampin, Kampung Stutong, Kampung Tabuan Dayak Baruh, Kampung Tabuan Dayak Atas and Kampung Tabuan Jaya Tengah areas.
“The Dayak community in MBKS has always been supportive of the council. We have always put emphasis on maintaining and strengthening the harmonious relationship between us and the community,” it said in a statement today (May 25).
It also said MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng reminded the public to celebrate the festival responsibly and that ngabang is not allowed.
“I would like to take the opportunity to wish ‘Selamat Ngintu Hari Gawai Dayak, Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai, Lantang Senang Nguan Menua’ to all who will be celebrating this festival.
“Please celebrate Hari Gawai with your own household members only. I would like to remind the importance of obeying and strictly following the standard operating procedures (SOPs) laid by Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) for us to fight the Covid-19 as it is not over yet,” he said.
The simple handover ceremony took place at the MBKS lobby with the presence of Councillor Mulok Saban, Councillor Timothy Julius and Councillor Rosaline Neging.
On a separate occasion, Wee also received donations on behalf of the Covid-19 One Stop Centre Dewan Masyarakat MBKS.
Wee expressed his gratitude to the companies and good Samaritans on the donations that will be delivered to the frontliners at the Covid-19 One Stop Centre.
“I would like to thank the director of Teck Kong Trading Sdn Bhd Penghulu Datuk Alex Pui Chow Hin for donating instant noodles, biscuits and packed drinks. The managing director of Tay Motor Sdn Bhd Aaron Tay for donating 10 stand fans and 10 electric jug kettles as well as Datin Amar Kathryn Wee for donating 50 cartons of drinking water. Moreover, Ng Phay Lin also donated six cartons of drinking water and biscuits,” he said.
