KUCHING: A special task force known as Squad 42 will be set up by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department throughout the country to address the Mat Rempit issue.
According to its Bukit Aman director Datuk Azisman Alias, his approach is to not carry out operations that will endanger their safety.
“For this special task force, I have instructed our personnel to disguise themselves as Mat Rempit. We will allow our members to dress and behave like them. We will also record their vehicles’ plate numbers, violent behaviour and taking their pictures as evidence.
“This time we will take action under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act, 1987 and we will also aske for higher bail amount.
“Many parents will not pay the bail which can cause the offenders to be jailed,” he pointed out.
