SIBU: Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) eight new approved projects under 12th Malaysia Plan are mainly on safer navigation and convenient movement of people.

It also includes the goods as well as construction and completion of riverine infrastructure projects.

The new approved project with total ceiling cost of RM45,280,000.of which consists of four new approved projects under infrastructure project and another four new approved projects under River Transport Safety.

The briefing on the project by Sarawak River Board (SRB) was attended by Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin at SRB office at Terminal Penumpang Sibu here yesterday.

Lee when met by reporters after the briefing said that he was briefed on projects implementation that took place in the Central Zone which included Sibu, Sarikei, Bintangor and Kapit areas.

“The damaged facilities here need to be repaired. I have been briefed on the repair projects and additional facilities that will be held at the Sibu Passenger Terminal. This project is under the 12th Malaysia Plan,” he said.

During his visit, Lee also presented life jackets to three speedboat operators who operate to Daro and Dalat.

Lee reminded all speedboat operators to prioritise the safety of passengers.

“All passengers must use a life jacket. This is a safety rule they must know. All boat operators must take the safety of passengers seriously,” he stressed.

Also present was Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek, Principal Assistant Secretary/Division Head (Land Transport and Logistics Division) Julin Alen and others.
