SIBU: The flood problem in Jalan Sungai Assan-Durin, Pulau Keladi here has received the attention of the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC).
Following complaints from several residents, SRDC deputy chairman Wong Ching Yong visited the area on Wednesday (Oct 6).
According to him, Jalan Sungai Assan-Durin would often be flooded due to its low level, which is why it needed to be raised immediately.
“This road is often used by residents from several villages and longhouses, especially in the Sungai Assan-Durin area, going to Sibu town or Sibu Jaya.
“This route is another alternative apart from the main routes of Jalan Lanang and Jalan Durin.”
Wong, who is also Sarawak United People’s Party, Dudong chairman, added that he would bring this matter to the attention of SRDC and try to find a solution as soon as possible.
“I was informed by the locals that the road will be flooded whenever there is heavy rain and high tide.
“They requested that SRDC upgrade the road to prevent the problem from happening again.”
