SIBU: Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) will take stern action against those dumping waste indiscriminately.

SRDC chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai urged members of the public to report to the council if they know or have seen anyone dumping waste indiscriminately.

“I urge members of the public to report to the council’s public health enforcement if they know of seen such illegal activities.

“Indiscriminate dumping of industrial and household waste is still rampant despite repeated warnings against such illegal activities. Thus, it is about time for us to take stern action,” he said.

Sempurai told reporters at a media conference held at SRDC office in Wisma Sanyan here yesterday.

According to him, the problem is especially glaring in Sibu Jaya and Kemuyang areas where wastes are dumped by the roadside or no-through roads.

“We need to tackle this problem seriously because if left unchecked, it will pose various health problems.

“It will also create breeding grounds for mosquitoes and attract pests,” he stressed.
