KUCHING: Sri Aman will host the Sarawak Open Boxing Championship for the second year running from Aug 19 to 26.

It is organised by the Sarawak State Boxing Association (SABA).

SABA president Datuk Rahman Lariwoo said the championship is being organised for the second year and Sri Aman has again been chosen as the venue.

“After the successful first edition last August, Sri Aman has been selected as the venue once again.

“This is due to the encouraging response that we received,” he told a press conference recently.

The eight-day championship will feature elite and Malaysia Games (SUKMA) athletes from all over the state, and will see boxers from Batam, Kalimantan, Singaporean, Japan and Thailand participating.

“This championship will also serve as a platform to select potential SUKMA athletes and assess their competitive abilities.

“Therefore, this is the best opportunity for the boxers and I hope they will use this platform by giving their best.

“On another note, I want to thank Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) for their consistent support towards SABA’s boxing development programmes,” added Rahman.
