BETONG: Following the forecast of bad weather until the end of August, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone Three Sri Aman has increased monitoring operations in more than 20 flood-prone areas.
“Under the supervision of the Sri Aman fire station, our focus area is Jalan Kejatau, Imau longhouse, Tanjung Batang Ai, Engkilili, Kampung Ijok, Langkang Ulu and Ili, Kampung Tawai, Kampung Ubah, Tekuyong, Issu and Empling Pantu.
“There are several areas under the supervision of the Betong fire station such as Penyelanih, Kampung Bungey, Babu, Lalang Debak, Buloh Antu, Padeh, Manggat longhouse, Sungai Paku, Entalun, Skrang, Sungai Pelanduk, Paku, Tabut, Tembong, Kejemut, Lipat and SK Tabut.
“As for areas under the Saratok fire station, they include Nanga Budu, Jalan Bajau, Nanga Atoi, Sungai Endot Kabong, Jalan Supok, Jalan SK Kabo and Tanjung Baru longhouse,” Sri Aman chief Ramlan Marajan said on Tuesday (Aug 25).
He assured that all equipment such as ropes, boats and personal flotation devices (PFD) were in good condition.
“In fact, the Sri Aman fire station is ready to enhance the efficiency of its members through training activities related to the use of rescue equipment, boat handling and rescue tasks at their respective stations.
“At the same time, I advise the public to be more aware of the surrounding areas, including warnings issued by the authorities through the media.
“…as well as keeping important contacts for emergency, and placing important documents, valuables in high places and easy to access if you need to move to an evacuation centre.”
Ramlan also recommended that the relevant parties and residents maintain the drainage system to prevent clogging during rainy days.
He had earlier paid a courtesy call on Betong Division Resident Friday Belik, accompanied by Betong fire station chief Vincent Baling Yabi and operations officer Henry Jugah.
