KUCHING: The state government will and intends to follow through on negotiations on oil royalty between them and Petronas.

This was said by State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani in response to a statement made by state Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) chairman Abdullah Saidol calling out Petronas to treat the ongoing negotiations on oil royalty between the state government and Petronas with respect.

Morshidi, who is also a member of the Petronas board of directors, said that Petronas is responding well with the negotiations.

“However, even the Chief Minister said that the process is not so simple as there are a lot of discussions and negotiations.

“But we are serious in dealing with Sarawak’s demands,” he said to reporters after the launching of the CSR collaboration and exchange of documents between Interhill Group and SBC at Pullman Hotel here on Wednesday.

The state government is currently in negotiations with both Petronas and the federal government to increase the state’s oil royalty from five per cent to twenty per cent.
