BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki has urged employees of the Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) to unite and strengthen their efforts to support the vision and aspirations of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He noted that Abang Johari is advancing at a fast pace, and the SCS must keep up to ensure the successful and timely completion of projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
“The most important thing is that we remain united. If there are any issues that need to be shared with me, whether collectively or individually, do not hesitate to do so.
“We must remain relevant. We need to operate as a team,” he said during the One Team Retreat (OTR) 2024 programme, themed ‘Project Management’, held at a prominent hotel here on today.
He also highlighted ongoing challenges with some delayed projects, stressing that these issues need to be resolved for the benefit of the people.
Nonetheless, he praised department heads who have successfully completed their projects on schedule.
“Projects that benefit the public, such as roads and bridges, are crucial as they contribute to improving our quality of life.
“It is essential that departments and agencies closely monitor all projects to ensure they are completed as planned,” he added.
He further warned department heads about the possible presence of ‘little Napoleons’ under their supervision — individuals who may create their own policies without the knowledge of their superiors, causing unnecessary complications for the public seeking solutions.
He urged department heads to take responsibility for all matters under their jurisdiction.
“As leaders, you are accountable for what happens. You must be proactive in addressing issues and ensuring smooth operations in your departments.
“This includes ensuring that your staff and department perform well, as the Public Service Salary System (SSPA) will conduct rigorous evaluations,” he stressed.
On the OTR programme, he explained that it provides a platform for SCS members to engage positively with one another.
“This is a platform for you to present and share new ideas, come together, and discuss issues and concerns affecting SCS members,” he added.
He encouraged SCS members to work as a team to improve their efficiency and remain relevant in carrying out their responsibilities.
The three-day programme runs from Oct 1 to 3.
Among those present were Sarawak Attorney General Datuk Saferi Ali, Sarawak Financial Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Deputy state secretaries Datuk Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel (Economic Planning and Development), Datuk Buckland Bangik (Administration), and DatuK Hii Chang Kee (Operations), as well as director of the Sarawak Transformation and Innovation Unit (STIU) Superi Awang Said .
