KUCHING: The Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and Sarawak State Sports Council (MSN Sarawak) stand pivotal in nurturing the talents of young athletes to become champions at the national, regional, and international levels.
Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the success achieved by Sarawak’s athletes reflect the efforts put in by the workforce of SSC and MSN Sarawak over the years.
“SSC and MSN Sarawak have a crucial role and responsibility in guiding and implementing the sports development agenda in Sarawak. The implementation of sports development agenda is essential as it involves young athletes with high potential and talent in various sports.
“Besides providing opportunities and supporting these athletes, SSC and MSN Sarawak also nurture these young athletes to become champions and this brings pride to Sarawak,” he said.
He made these remarks when officiating at SSC and MSNS appreciation dinner yesterday evening (Dec 8).
Citing the saying ‘when there is unity, there is always victory’, Abdul Karim said sports fosters unity and brotherhood among Sarawakians who come from different backgrounds.
He also said sports and recreational activities should be viewed as the best avenue for cultivating a healthy lifestyle and interaction among the diverse communities in the state.
“The state government through my ministry places great emphasis on the development of sports facilities throughout Sarawak. This is to ensure that our community can engage in sports and recreational activities together.
“As such, our younger generation should be encouraged to participate in sports and recreational activities to safeguard both their physical and mental wellbeing,” he said.
