The Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) is urgently seeking community support to address a serious building safety hazard caused by recent severe weather.

The organisation has launched a fundraising campaign to help cover the costs of safely removing and trimming several large, old trees that have fallen due to heavy rains and strong winds.

“The fallen old tree poses a serious safety risk to both the shelter’s structure and the animals in its care,” SSPCA said in a statement.

It said immediate action is required to prevent further damage and ensure the well-being of the animals housed at the shelter.

“We rely heavily on the generosity of individuals, businesses, and organisations in our community to continue our mission,” it said.

SSPCA added the contribution will go directly towards hiring professional tree removal and trimming services, ensuring a safe environment for the shelter animals, and maintaining the integrity of the shelter building.

“Every donation, regardless of size, will make a meaningful impact,” it said.

Donations can be made online to the Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ CIMB Bank Berhad account number, 8005274525.

“We urge our community to come together during this challenging time to support the shelter and the animals who depend on us,” it added.
