KUCHING: The Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) successfully rescued 23 cats from a challenging situation in Jalan Semaba.
The society engaged with a woman who had been caring for the cats.
While appreciating her efforts, the SSPCA said that the cages were inadequate and the number of animals exceeded her capacity for proper care.
“We reassured the lady that the cats would be better cared for with us. After much discussion, she agreed to let us take all 23 cats,” SSPCA said in a Facebook post recently.
One kitten was immediately rushed to the vet due to severe dehydration and flu.
Additionally, the SSPCA negotiated to take custody of five Malayan black turtles, promising to release them safely.
The society is now seeking foster homes for five of the rescued cats and encourages anyone interested to contact them.
“A huge thank you to everyone involved in the rescue, and special thanks to Vivien for bringing this case to our attention,” it said.
