KUCHING: Sarawak Timber Association (STA) has so far spent about RM250,000 in preparation for the coming Sarawak Timber SMEs Expo 2019 which will take place at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) from June 27 to June 30.

This was revealed by STA senior manager Annie Ting during an exclusive interview with New Sarawak Tribune and its sister paper Suara Sarawak at her office in Wisma STA here, yesterday.

“The money (RM250,000) was used in setting up 10 booths. Throughout the expo, we will display the information of our association as well as our members,” she said.

“In the effort of promoting STA to the visitors, we want to reach as many people as possible in understanding our establishment, goals, activities, and members of the industry.”

According to Ting, the other members of STA also take part in the expo and will be handling their own booth

“So far, I was informed that there will be seven major timber companies participating including KTS Forest Plantations Sdn Bhd, Samling Sdn Bhd, Shin Yang Forestry Sdn Bhd, Ta Ann Holdings Bhd, Sanyan Lumber Sdn Bhd, WTK Holdings Bhd and Rimbunan Hijau group,” she added.

STA was formed in 1971 and currently serves as the only timber association in Malaysia representing companies involved in both the upstream and downstream activities of the timber industry and its subsequent trade.

Currently, STA has about 400 member companies dealing with timber and timber products which include logs, sawn timber, plywood, mouldings/dowels, furniture, laminated boards and other panel products.
