Stadium and affordable housing projects in Mukah gets the go-ahead from Premier

MUKAH: The Sarawak government has given the green light for the development of the Mukah Stadium Phase 2 and new affordable housing projects in the division here.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg announced the approval during the Leaders with the People dinner at Kingwood Resort, here last night (Aug 13).

Telian assemblyman Royston Valentine thsnked Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for approving the crucial projects.

“Mukah is one of the divisions that has produced many new talents in various sports such as hockey, football, taekwondo, wushu, and many other high-performance sports.

“It have achieved significant success at both the Sarawak and national levels in recent times.

“Therefore, to address the needs of the people here, I request that the Sarawak government proceed with the development of Mukah Stadium Phase 2, which will include an indoor stadium, a multipurpose court, and synthetic fields for hockey and football at the existing site that has been planned for almost 10 years,” he said.

Royston said the facility is vital to meet the needs of the local community and to enhance Mukah’s status as a division that should also be developed like other divisions such as Bintulu and Sibu.

On a related note, he said there is an urgent need for additional housing, particularly for newlyweds and heads of families who are still sharing a residence.

“There is still ample land available in Lot 981 Block 76 and Lot Mutiara Indah 2 within the Mukah Land District, owned by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

“This can be developed with low-cost housing for those in need. Therefore, the people of Mukah are hopeful that these housing schemes, especially those offered by HDC, will provide them with the opportunity to own their own homes,” he said.

Among those present were Deputy Minister of Economy Datuk Hanifah Taib and Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.
