SIBU: The Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) has played a significant role in supporting Sape player Stanford Ryan Sidi at the 27th World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA).
Stanford acknowledged that financial constraints were among the biggest challenges he faced in achieving his awards.
“The challenges were very tough, especially in finding funds to go there. I only received funding from the MTCP, despite asking others.
“I am grateful and thankful to MTCP because, with their support, I could make it.
“Many thanks to my family for their continuous support and to the Persatuan Anak Seni Sape Kuching (PUSAK) centre, as they helped a lot in managing the work to go there and securing the funds.”
He made these remarks when approached by reporters upon his arrival at Sibu Airport, Wednesday night (July 10).
Meanwhile, PUSAK deputy chairman Danison Manium said the association acted as a mediator for Stanford to network with ministries and external agencies to seek funding.
“We are grateful for the positive responses to our applications, particularly from the ministry through their grant.
“This funding has covered Stanford’s expenses for his trips, including regular training sessions in Kuala Lumpur. We extend our gratitude especially to MTCP,” he said.
Stanford, a talented Sape player from Sibu, earned world recognition by winning a gold medal for his original masterpiece “Borneo Journey” at the grand final of the 27th WCOPA in the USA.
The 26-year-old Iban musician stood out in the Original Work Music category under the Senior Division.
He also secured silver medals in the Contemporary, Classical, and Open categories, as well as a bronze medal in the Jazz category.
