KUCHING: State Reform Party (STAR) said its candidates will stand in the 12th state election and if they win, the first thing is to propose a Sarawak Independence Referendum Ordinance in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

Its president Lina Soo said that come the election, it was the opportunity for Sarawakians to vote in and elect pro-self determination lawmakers who can propose the said ordinance.

“If the bill is passed, the state government can conduct the referendum process, constitutionally and peacefully.

“But if the bill is not accepted or is aborted, STAR will start the referendum by using blockchain technology where the people will have a say in determining the future of the state,” she said in a press conference here yesterday.

She said the party promised to deliver the independence ordinance referendum by Christmas 2021.

“To make the independence referendum a reality for Sarawak, blockchain technology is the solution in today’s 21st century,” she said.

Soo said as an example, Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang had added blockchain voting to his official campaign, claiming it was 100 percent technically possible to have fraud-proof voting on the mobile phones today.

“And on 25th October 2019, Xi Jin Ping, President of China gave his blessing for blockchain technology to be accelerated for multiple applications ranging from mass transit, capital markets, education, employment and even for the purpose of poverty alleviation,” she said.

She added in America, there had been more than 30 successful live elections that ranged from political party conventions, student elections and town hall meeting voting.

A blockchain is a ledger which is a book keeping record of all business transaction. It is also called DLT-Distributed Ledger Technology which contains three elements such as networking, consensus protocols and blockchain and behaves like a general ledger and is distributed across multiple servers called verifiers to verify the authenticity of block (collection of transaction).
