KUCHING: The state government has approved the Emergency Response Works for damaged public infrastructure with a first allocation of RM50 million in 2023.

Deputy Premier cum Infrastructure and Port Development Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the approval of this work will be under the purview of the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

Uggah said in order to properly carry out their daily activities, the people depend on reliable infrastructures such as roads and bridges.

“Unfortunately, natural disasters such as floods and landslides can cause significant damage to infrastructure, causing people inconvenience when their movement is disrupted.

“With this allocation, the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) will be able to restore or rebuild damaged infrastructure quickly,” he explained.

He said this in his winding up speech at the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today (Dec 1).

He added that normally, such emergency works are financed through the Small Emergency Work Assistance Fund under the SDMC.
