Tengah is now DCM, Talib and Abdul Karim are full ministers

KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg announced a cabinet reshuffle yesterday after obtaining the consent from Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud.

He named Bukit Sari Assemblyman Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan as his new deputy, to bring the number to three Deputy Chief Ministers. The other two Deputy Chief Ministers are Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing and Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

“Reshuffling of the cabinet is made to implement a number of policies that I have made within my 100 days as Chief Minister.

“The new cabinet which effectively starts today will see two new ministers and two assistant ministers to be sworn in before Head the State at the Astana,” he revealed at a press conference during the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) ‘Jasamu Dikenang’ event held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here, yesterday.

The two new ministers to be sworn in today are Datuk Haji Talib Zulpilip (Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office) and Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah (Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture,Youth and Sports) and the two assistant ministers are Snowdan Lawan (Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports) and Abdullah Saidol (Assistant Minister for Corporate Affairs).

Meanwhile, the new full minister portfolios are Deputy Chief Minister (Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan); Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Datuk Talib Zulpilip); Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports (Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah); Minister of International Trade and E-Commerce (Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh) and Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research (Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong).

Masing and three other ministers, Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian and Datuk Fatimah Abdullah remained in their respective ministries.

The new assistant minister portfolios are Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports (Snowdan Lawan); Assistant Minister for Corporate Affairs (Abdullah Saidol); Assistant Minister for Education and Technological Research and Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health (Dr Annuar Rapa’ee); Assistant Minister for Community Wellbeing (Datuk Francis Harden Hollis); Assistant Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment (Datu Haji Len Talif Salleh); Assistant Minister for Native Land Development (Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn); Assistant Minister for Agriculture (Dr. Abdul Rahman Ismail); Assistant Minister for Transportation (Datuk Dr. Jerip Susil); Assistant Minister for Native Laws and Costumes (Datuk John Sikie Tayai); Assistant Minister for Industries and Investment (Malcolm Mussen Lamoh); Assistant Minister for Entrepreneur and Small, Medium Enterprise (SME) Development and Assistant Minister of E-Commerce (Datuk Haji Naroden Majais); Assistant Minister for Local Government (Datu Dr. Penguang Manggil) and Assistant Minister for Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring (Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali).
